Women's Weight Training Information (Page 1 of 2)
Previously women in general did not use weight training as a means of exercise to gain fitness. This is attributed to several factors including the view that weight training is not feminine and the fear that it makes women look too muscular.
Recently this has all changed for these reasons:
- A recent 1992 study revealed that weight training reversed some of the natural bone loss that occurs during and after menopause. If left unchecked, this bone loss can result in osteoporosis, a condition that leads to bone fractures in the older population. Dr. Rebecca Jackson, M.D., and colleagues at Ohio State University conducted the research.
- Exercise scientists have finally realized that weight training is vital to losing body fat. Weight training increases lean muscle tissue, which in turn will speed up the metabolism.
- It is impossible for a normal woman to gain enough muscle to look masculine. Women simply do not have enough of the male hormone called testosterone, which is needed to grow big muscles.
- Women make the greatest improvement in terms of developing strength, body shaping, and muscle definition. Also, weight training enhances body fat burn off and trimming those female troubled area.
