Calves (Page 1 of 3)

The calf muscle is often neglected. It is foolish to work hard to have a great body and then neglect your calf muscles. If you have well-formed thighs and underdeveloped calves, your legs will look top heavy, no matter how perfectly formed your thigh is. In addition, your buttocks will seem larger, because a pencil-thin or flat calf throws attention upward to the roundness of the buttocks.

The calf muscle consists of two muscles, the gastrocnemius and the soleus. The gastrocnemius in turn consists of two parts, which connect in the middle of the lower leg and tie in with the Achilles tendon. The section where the two heads of the muscle tie in to each other forms the raised calf muscle. The gastrocnemius muscle works to flex the knee and the foot downward. The soleus lies beneath the gastrocnemius, and it assists in flexing the foot downward.

Generally the calf muscle is one of the easiest muscles for a woman to develop. You will notice improvement within two months or sooner. Unfortunately, men have more difficulty in developing the calf muscles.
