Finding A Diet Plan that Works For Your Metabolism

Now that you are motivated to accomplish your first weight-loss goal, you must decide which diet plan will be the most effective for you. Most diet plans are based on the glycemic (sugar) index. As we understand more about insulin resistance and the importance of the glycemic index, we are beginning to understand why some people lose weight more readily by following an individualized plan that suits their medical profile.

Plan 1. Low Glycemic Index Plan
This plan may be most effective for you, if you have any of the following medical conditions or if these conditions are present in your family history:

• Insulin resistance
• Diabetes
• High triglycerides
• Low HDL cholesterol
• Hypertension (high blood pressure)
• Early arteriosclerosis despite normal cholesterol levels
• Problems losing weight when on a low-fat diet

This plan features more fibrous vegetables and fewer simple carbohydrates and starches in order to maintain a lower glycemic index. Continue to Plan 2.
