Weight-Loss Tips (Page 2 of 7)
- Always carry dice and a deck of cards. No, you aren't replacing eating with gambling. This is your portion control kit, and you need to have it with you at all times. If you don't want to carry a deck of cards you can use your cell phone instead for portion control. The fact is that most people underestimate exactly how much they're eating.
- By a nutritionist's standards, a single serving of meat, fish, or poultry is three ounces, or about the size of a deck of cards or a modern cell phone. Yet, when you go to a restaurant and order a typical steak, and you'll get 8 to 12 ounces of beef on your plate - that's 3 to 4 times larger than the standard serving size.

If you are serious about portion control and losing weight, buy a food scale. Use it along with measuring cups and spoons, to calculate serving sizes that don't lend themselves to your portion control kit. You don't have to use the scale forever -- just long enough to get a feel for portion size and nutritional values.
